Migrants and Refugees

Migration and displacement are important human and social issues around the world. Every year, millions of people leave their homes and areas because of war, insecurity, political and social problems, economic problems, persecution, natural disasters, and to save their lives. Some live outside their countries for a short time, while others live abroad for a long time.

Migrants and refugees face many different problems in new countries. Problems with legal documents and residence permits, limited opportunities for work and education, housing and health problems, separation from family, language barriers, adjusting to a new social and cultural environment, discrimination, and mental pressure are some of the main problems faced by many migrants and refugees. Some people also face serious worries because of long legal processes and an uncertain future.

Afghans are also among the people in the world who have experienced large-scale and long-term migration because of many years of war and insecurity. Millions of Afghans have been forced to leave their homes during different wars and have moved to other countries as migrants and refugees. Many Afghans still face problems in different countries with legal documents, family unity, education, work, health, social integration, and adjusting to a new life.

The problems of migrants and refugees are not only the problems of one country or one region. They are a global humanitarian issue. Every migrant and refugee, as a human being, has the right to human dignity, security, freedom, education, health, work, legal protection, fair treatment, and family unity. A person’s status as a migrant or refugee should not cause them to lose their basic human rights, face discrimination, or suffer inhuman treatment.

We call on governments around the world, international organizations, and humanitarian organizations to give serious and continuous attention to the situation of migrants and refugees, protect their human and legal rights, reduce family separation, and provide the necessary opportunities and support for education, health, work, housing, and legal protection.

The Afghan International Human Rights Organization carries out different programs and activities to defend the human rights of migrants and refugees and to help solve their problems. The organization monitors the situation of migrants and refugees, documents human rights problems, raises public awareness about their rights, works with relevant institutions and organizations to help solve their problems, and presents its requests and recommendations to relevant governments, international organizations, and humanitarian organizations.

Our goal is for migrants and refugees to be able to live in safety, with human dignity, equality, and respect for human rights. We believe that a person’s basic rights should not change because of their geographical location, nationality, or migrant or refugee status.
